Electric Guitar - Classical Guitar - acoustic guitar - Bass - drums - Ukulele - piano
Dean received his first guitar at the age of 10, and his passion for music grew rapidly from there. Although his early motivations might have been to annoy his family - his talent, discipline and experience have molded him into a seasoned musician and educator.
While attending Broad Run High School, Dean and two of his friends formed a heavy metal band, performing at venues within Northern Virginia. Following graduation, they formed their first company Prodigy Music, beginning their teaching careers.
Dean was accepted into the Berklee College of Music in 2004, and later in 2008, attended George Mason University’s Music Education program, completing courses in music history, music theory, sight/ear training, and performing in jazz ensembles.
In 2007, Dean began teaching at Reston Music where he taught guitar, bass, and ukulele for 15 years. He was also the Band Director of Larry’s Loud Noises, leading rehearsals for student rock bands and producing seasonal shows for 10 years. Dean taught at School of Rock in Ashburn in 2015, where he also taught private guitar lessons and directed several student shows. When the world turned upside down in 2020, Dean decided to form JAM Loudoun as a way to keep music accessible to everyone, take lessons from anywhere, and continue to spread the joy of music.
Dean has a natural ability for education, and his passion and enthusiasm is infectious. What makes his teaching style special, is that he allows his students to dictate the direction their lessons will take; learning what their passions are, and what their taste in music is in order to keep them excited about learning. All while instructing students on music theory, history, and introducing them to the great musicians throughout time.
